The visit
begins at 8:30 a.m. towards the Souss plain; a well-known agricultural area in
Morocco, and as far as Taroudant; one of the oldest cities in Morocco. Located
80 km south-east of Agadir with its ancient medina surrounded by ramparts built
in clay which are very interesting and somewhat reminiscent of the visitor to
Marrakech.
The
excursion begins with a tour of the ramparts by vehicle, then returning through
one of its famous "Bab Selsla" gates, stopping and taking a photo at
the Great Wall. From there we leave our minibus to begin the walk and discover
the old medina and its labyrinths, the souk rich in crafts, food products,
clothes and jewelry, a paradise for lovers of authenticity and authentic
atmospheres. And to refresh ourselves we head towards an old palace in the
medina currently transformed into a hotel/Riad. After a short visit, it is also
the opportunity to enjoy a mint tea, coffee or why not a fresh orange juice in
the patio and garden of this peaceful palace.
At the end
of the visit to the Medina, free time is given in Assarag Square to witness the
folklore of Berber musicians, snake charmers and storytellers, tooth
pullers...take photos as you wish. And to fully enjoy this atmosphere, a coffee
or mint tea in one of the cafes under the arcades of the main square is well
deserved.
From Taroudant we head towards the oasis of Tiout. This small Berber village at the foot of the Anti-Atlas Mountains with a magnificent palm grove stretching between several villages perched on top of the hills overlooking a sublime landscape. Lunch is planned at the Tiout kasbah: very refined Berber cuisine with a delicious menu; Chicken and lemon tagine, couscous with seven kinds of vegetables plus a seasonal fruit dessert. The kasbah offers us a breathtaking panoramic view with a contrast of land that is both green and arid. And to visit the palm grove; The best way is to ride on the back of a donkey. This remains an effective way to enjoy the ride and also to help residents and contribute to the economy of their villages. Taking a walk in the palm groove is optional and some visitors might find it even more interesting. The return to Agadir will be via another different route for a complete change of scenery.
