Brief description of Marrakech:
Marrakech is one of the oldest of the five imperial cities of Morocco which contributed to shaping the history of the country. Today, the city remains the most fascinating and symbolic medieval city due to its ancient monuments, its mazelike medina which testifies to the historic and cultural wealth of the whole country. This fascinating excursion is a journey of contrasts and takes you back in time. The history spatters through the magnificence of Marrakech's main monuments and the picturesque alleys of the medina. Once inside the souks of the Medina, the atmosphere becomes quite particular, a fascinating game of colors and scents; multicolored stalls of spices, dried fruits, and aromatic plants. In the souks, you will also appreciate the ingenious know-how of Moroccan craftsmen testimony of the shops and the multicolored bazaars with an infinity of various and well-crafted items; an endless display that is fascinating indeed.
Schedule highlights:
Departure from Agadir at 07:00 a.m. taking the Agadir-Marrakech highway; after crossing the High Atlas and the plains of the Haouz, the magical city of Marrakech starts to appears on the horizon. As soon as you arrive around 10:30 a.m. the journey starts by visiting some of the most memorable and historical monuments:
- The Bahia Palace: The Bahia, meaning brilliance in Arabic, is perhaps one of the best-preserved historical sites and certainly most interesting in Marrakech. Set over two acres in the middle of the Marrakech medina and features over 100 rooms, including a harem section located just off the sun-filled Court of Honor; today, the Bahia Palace is a must-see historical museum open to the public daily.
- The gardens of the Koutoubia: Located right next to Jamaa el Fna, at the heart of the Medina; the park itself spreads across two hectares and provides a pleasant green paradise of immaculately trimmed rose bushes, perfectly symmetrical walkways, and plenty of shade-covered benches.
- The Saadian Tombs: One of the most popular tourist sites in Marrakech. These tombs date back to the end of the sixteenth century designed by Ahmad al-Mansur and are located in a closed garden, which visitors can access through a small passageway. After the visit of the monuments, a lunch break is planned and usually scheduled in a riad typically decorated in Arab-Moorish architecture and the meal consists of a delicious traditional Moroccan dish (average price 10 euro/prs with alcoholic drinks available on request both of which are not included in the excursion price). After lunch, you'll visit the souk, one of the major attractions of the city, rich in handicraft products such as pottery, ceramic, leather goods, brass, and clothing, a real paradise for picking up a Moroccan gift followed by free time at the famous square of:
- Jamaa el Fna: A UNESCO World Heritage site) and the daily stage of various commercial and entertainment activities; very lively during the late afternoons and is the destination for all magic including acrobats, storytellers, snake charmers, and delicious food stalls.
